Big news in the world of SPORTS:

John Madden, the Hall of Fame coach and legendary broadcaster for the NFL, passed away yesterday.  He was 85.  He was born in Minnesota.

Madden was Head Coach for the Oakland Raiders for TEN SEASONS, winning The Super Bowl in ‘77.  He has the best ‘winning percentage’ among NFL coaches with more than 100 games.

After he retired from coaching, he worked as a play-by play announcer until 2009, when he retired.  It was his work in the booth that really made him a household name!  He’s considered the best TV analyst in football and probably all sports.  Everything I’ve read had to do with the way he simplified the game for viewers

….and remember those catchphrases like “boom”, “bam” and “doink”, during the games.

He was busy outside of his play-by-play job:  he was a spokesperson for restaurants, hardware stores, beer, and of course, was the face of “Madden NFL Football” – one of the most successful sports video games ever.

He won 16 Emmy Awards, and covered 11 Super Bowls.  He was a best-selling author.  MADDEN leaves behind a net worth of almost $200 million.

FOX released a documentary on Christmas Day called “ALL MADDEN”.  The main focus of the documentary is his life after coaching

R.I.P JOHN MADDEN!
