Police have laid 137 charges against 11 inmates at Thunder Bay District Jail.

Officers were dispatched Wednesday morning to the jail after reports of an inmate-on-inmate assault.

They discovered two people were forced into cells on Monday by the 11 inmates and not allowed to leave.

The two victims were allegedly assaulted during that time repeatedly by the accused.

While captive, the victims reportedly were also forced to make phone calls to transfer crypto-currency to the accused.

The victims who were allegedly held for 30 hours were taken to hospital.

The accused ages range from 18 to 32, nine of them being from the Greater Toronto Area.

Charges include assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement, kidnapping, extortion, and more.

The accused will remain in custody with future court dates.

This investigation is ongoing.
