Thunder Bay is lending a hand to residents who are cleaning up their property following a Canada Day storm.
The city is offering one free tipping fee voucher for the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility.
The vouchers are only valid for yard waste disposal.
“We understand that the clean-up may take several weeks and that it involves a large volume of trees, limbs and branches,” said Manager of Solid Waste and Recycling Services, Jason Sherband.
“To ease the burden of dealing with this material and ensure that to goes to the proper laydown area, we’ve introduced a temporary voucher system so that one load of yard waste per affected household can cross the scales free of charge.”
Mixed loads containing yard waste and regular garbage will be subject to the facility’s regular tipping fee rates.
Vouchers must be presented to landfill staff upon crossing the inbound scale.
Only one voucher will be issued per household impacted by the storm.
All vouchers will expire on Aug. 31.
To request a voucher, residents may call the Solid Waste & Recycling Facility at 807-684-2470 or email swrs@thunderbay.ca
The vouchers can be mailed or picked up at the Landfill Administration Building.
