A wildfire burning just north of Moncton remains out of control as of Monday morning, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
The department’s Public Fires Dashboard said the Irishtown fire has grown to an estimated 54 hectares, up from 30 hectares on Sunday.
Four air tankers and two skimmers fought the blaze until late Sunday night, with fire crews returning to the scene on Monday morning.
New Brunswick EMO said residents in the Irishtown, Tankville, Evangeline and Lakeville areas should be prepared to evacuate if needed.
If an evacuation becomes necessary, the municipality of Maple Hills said the current proposed boundary includes Weisner Road to the east, Cape Breton Road to the north and Lakeville to the south, including the Lakeside Estates Mini Home Park.
Irishtown Nature Park remains closed until further notice due to the ongoing fire operations, according to the City of Moncton.
Meanwhile, an out-of-control wildfire just north of Miramichi is still reported to be around 340 hectares in size, according to DNR.
Nine other fires are burning throughout the province — one is contained and the rest are being monitored.
The province is scheduled to provide an update on the fire situation at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
More to come.
