An effort to establish a first contract for unionized employees at Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre enters conciliation on Tuesday.

The contract would impact nearly 40 nurses and other healthcare professionals.

They agreed to join the Ontario Nurses Association in April 2024.

The union says they are now seeking a contract that is fair and provides employees with wages that are comparable to those of other healthcare providers.

“It is imperative that they achieve the respectful, fair first collective agreement they deserve, without any disruption in services,” states Erin Ariss, president of the ONA.

The members have voted in support of strike action, but the union hopes that action is not necessary.

“We are optimistic that a fair and respectful first collective agreement can be reached this week,” says Ariss.

“Access to the high-quality healthcare services provided by our members is far too important to lose.”
