Rain and cooler temperatures may assist with the wildfires in New Brunswick.

But more precipitation is still needed, as the dry conditions prevail.

The Department of Natural Resources says wildfire danger remains high.

It adds, quick rain showers only dampen the surface, while the dry material underneath can still ignite easily, and sun and wind can dry out that moisture within hours, creating dangerous conditions again.

As of 9:30 am Monday, the Government of New Brunswick confirmed 37 wildfires, with seven that are out of control.

A bit of relief for those living near the Old Field Road fire in the Miramichi area.  It is now classified as contained at around 1400 hectares, but DNR warns that it is still burning and could potentially jump or spread.

Evacuation advisories were also lifted on Sunday night in the Lavillette region.

The Beaver’s Lake Stream fire west of Red Bank continues to grow.  It has now burned over 650 hectares.
