Wildfire activity continues across New Brunswick, with crews responding to multiple fires across the province.

There are 33 active fires in the province; nine are contained, five are being monitored, one is under control, 14 are being patrolled, and four are out of control, as of 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.

The three most notable wildfires out of control are Chief’s fire northeast of Northesk, which is nearing 220 hectares.

The Beaver Lake Stream fire west of Red Bank is now at 238 hectares.

The Rocky Brook fire northwest of Bathurst has reached 184 hectares.

Officials say that the recent rainfall on Sunday has helped slow fire growth, but more sustained precipitation is needed to reduce the risk and allow for longer-term planning.

Natural Resources Minister John Herron said two to five days of steady rain would be beneficial.

The province is considering reopening some areas regionally, depending on local conditions. Forestry operations may resume in select zones, with strict safety measures in place.

No structures have been lost, and no fatalities have been reported.

Herron credited the province’s structure protection unit for safeguarding key infrastructure, including a telecommunications tower near Route 8.

The Oldfield Road fire near Miramichi, which had been a major concern over the weekend, was contained at 1,400 hectares as of Monday morning.

Recreational access to Crown lands remains prohibited, and a full burn ban is still in effect.

Residents are urged to stay alert and prepare for possible evacuation if fires approach their area.
