Halifax Regional Police say two people are in custody after an officer fired their gun during a traffic stop yesterday evening.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. on Main Avenue. Police say two officers pulled over a car they believed was being driven erratically. As they approached, the vehicle suddenly accelerated toward one of them. The officer fired two shots at the side of the car before it sped away.

Shortly after 1 a.m., police located the vehicle at a residence in Halifax. A man and a woman were arrested at the scene. Officers say neither had been injured in the shooting.

No charges have yet been laid, and police say further information will be released if that changes.

The Serious Incident Response Team, Nova Scotia’s police oversight agency, has been called in to review the case.
