Today, we kick off the LABOUR DAY LONG WEEKEND. It’s a statutory holiday in Canada. Do you know how long we’ve been celebrating the Labour Day weekend?
Since 1894. BUT, we have to go back as early as 1872, when labour demonstrations in Toronto happened with the Toronto Typographical Union. After that, parades and festivals marked the September long weekend.
AND, you can’t forget the old-fashioned tradition in both Canada and the States – that you can’t wear white after Labour Day. Legend has it that WHITE is considered a ‘summer colour’, and the long weekend traditionally signifies the ‘end of summer’. How dare you wear white next week!
I say…that tradition is long gone. Go for it – wear white if you want to. Have a fantastic Labour Day Long Weekend.
