Students and staff at Riverview High School are being evacuated due to a police investigation at the school.
Superintendent Randolph MacLEAN said administrators “received information of a concerning nature” around 1 p.m. Monday.
“The administration immediately contacted the RCMP and the District Office and out of an abundance of care and caution we enacted lockdown procedures,” MacLEAN said in an email to families.
“Lockdown indicates that nobody is permitted to enter or exit the premises or property and students and staff remain in place.”
In an updated message sent around 1:50 p.m. Monday, MacLEAN said students and staff were evacuated to the designated evacuation site.
Parents and guardians can pick up their students at the evacuation site, he said. School buses will also pick up students there at their usual time.
In a social media post shortly after 2 p.m. Monday, RCMP said they were on the scene of a police operation near the 400 block of Whitepine Road, which is the address of the school.
“We ask that the public avoid the area. An update will be issued when we are able,” said the post.
