Some peace of mind is coming to Nova Scotians who receive income assistance.
Recipients can expect a rate increase of 1.6 per cent this year.
Disability Support Program participants who receive the standard household rate will also receive the same increase.
This is the second year that rates were raised to address the added costs of inflation.
“Rising costs for essentials like rent, groceries and utilities put real pressure on household budgets,” said Barbara Adams, Minister of Opportunities and Social Development.
“By continuing to tie rates to the cost of living, we’re providing more stability for individuals and families and reinforcing our commitment to supporting those who need it most.”
Connecting rates to the cost of living helps ensure individuals and families who rely on these supports can better keep up with rising prices.
This rate increase reflects the government’s commitment to support Nova Scotians who face financial challenges.
