Police in Sydney, Cape Breton, are on the scene of a live grenade at 153 Pitt Street, according to a social media post from the government.

Around 8:30 a.m., police got a call about a suspicious item in a building on the property. The address is for the Ideal Car Care Centre.

Police are evacuating nearby buildings and have closed the street to cars and pedestrians.

They have contained the area while they are waiting for Military personnel to arrive on scene as well as a bomb unit.

An emergency alert says police will contact people in the area if residents or businesses have to evacuate.
