Three brothers from Northern California recently experienced an extraordinary surprise while sorting through their late mother’s belongings. As they cleared a seldom‑used closet in her home, they uncovered a stack of comic books hidden beneath old newspapers and a few cobwebs.

Among the collection were six rare comics purchased in the mid‑ to late‑1930s. Five were issues of Action Comics, the anthology series that famously introduced Superman to the world — all preserved in mint condition. But the most remarkable discovery was still to come: a pristine copy of Superman No. 1 from 1939, now considered the most iconic comic book ever published. That single issue is valued at just over $9 million.

The brothers are taking time to determine their next steps, but their discovery is a powerful reminder that you never truly know what treasures might be tucked away in an attic or closet.
