An overnight winter parking ban will be in effect early Monday to give crews room to clear streets and sidewalks in Halifax.
The municipality said the ban will run from 1 to 6 a.m. in both the central and non‑central parking zones.
Residents can confirm their zone by searching their address through the municipality’s interactive tool.
Vehicles must be off municipal streets during those hours.
Cars may be towed at any time of year if they interfere with snow‑clearing operations, citing Section 139 of the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act.
Residents are being asked to remove planters, lawn decorations and other portable items from areas near sidewalks before winter weather sets in.
Permanent structures that cannot be moved should be marked with a reflector so crews can see them above the snow, the municipality said.
Officers will be ticketing vehicles that block sidewalk clearing.
Vehicles that hang out of driveways or park on sidewalks can be damaged and create hazards for crews and pedestrians, including seniors, people with mobility challenges and parents pushing strollers, according to the municipality.
Property owners are also being reminded not to push or pile snow onto streets or sidewalks, and said doing so violates By‑law S‑300 and can create safety issues while complicating snow‑clearing efforts.
Enforcement tools are in place for non‑compliance, the municipality said.
The overnight winter parking ban remains in effect until March 31.
Residents can stay informed by signing up for automated notifications, checking municipal updates or calling 311.
