Thunder Bay’s own Krista Scharf returned to the national stage at the 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Mississauga, carrying decades of experience, a loyal Northern Ontario fan base, and the same burning ambition she’s held since her first Scotties appearance: winning her first Scotties.
A Wide-Open Scotties — And a Golden Opportunity
With defending champion Rachel Homan setting her sights at the Winter Olympics, the 2026 field was unusually open, creating one of the most unpredictable Scotties in recent memory. Kerri Einarson stepped in as Team Canada after finishing runner-up in 2025, while 18 teams are battling through the round-robin at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre in Mississauga.
For veterans like Krista Scharf, this is the kind of year where experience, grit, and patience could make all the difference.

The Chase for a First Scotties Title
Despite her long history at the event, a Scotties championship has remained the one missing piece in Scharf’s decorated career. The 2026 tournament, with its unpredictable field and shifting momentum, offers one of her best chances in years.
Whether this is the year she finally breaks through or another chapter in her enduring pursuit, Scharf’s presence continues to elevate the Northern Ontario program and inspire curlers across Thunder Bay and beyond.
Krista Scharf’s 2026 Scotties run is more than a competition — it’s a testament to longevity, passion, and the relentless pursuit of a dream. Thunder Bay fans know her story well, and the national curling community continues to root for one of the sport’s most respected veterans.
If she does capture that long-awaited title, it’ll be one of the most celebrated victories Northern Ontario has ever seen.
Cheers to Krista and her team: Ashley Sippala, Kendra Lilly, Sarah Potts and alternate Bella McCarville, AND, coach Rick Lang.
