This story is from Belton, Texas – and what started as a simple game of chair volleyball – has turned into something pretty special. Woodland Cottages, is a senior home – and there’s a group of seniors who proudly call themselves The Hit Squad.  They’ve started hosting friendly “chair‑volleyball” matches against a High School volleyball team. And what started as a fun idea, has grown into a full‑blown intergenerational friendship.

The games are fun, lots of laughing, lots of energy….and even some fierce competition. One senior resident said,  “We just laugh and laugh when we practice”.

AND, the connection doesn’t stop at the court. Last week, the seniors showed up at one of the girls’ high school games—cheering from the stands. The students are loving this connection to the seniors, visiting a couple of times a week and soaking up the wisdom of their new friends.

Here’s the cool thing:  word is spreading. After hearing about the fun, the undefeated Lady Broncos basketball team asked to schedule their own match with the seniors.

Now, the story continues with packed stands, post‑game hugs, and smiles.  The seniors  say they’re feeling more active, more connected, and have purpose!

A simple game… turning into something truly heartwarming.
