a glass block with the words thank you on it

You know those moments that remind you what’s possible when a community pulls in the same direction? Here’s one worth celebrating.

Last week, Hammarskjold High School students – finished another student‑built home.  How great is this?  Crafted right here by local young people learning the skilled trades.  The house made its journey north to Nibi-namik First Nation.

Northern communities continue to face real, urgent housing pressures, and this project is a powerful example of what happens when education connects directly to real‑world needs. These students didn’t just earn hands-on experience; they helped create a practical, meaningful solution for a community that needs it.

Every board, every nail, every late‑day cleanup — all done with care, craftsmanship, and teamwork. And honestly, that pride shows.

A huge thankyou to Matawa First Nations, the Lakehead Social Planning Council, and the amazing partners, supporters, and behind‑the‑scenes staff who make opportunities like this possible.

It’s more than a house. It’s hope, skill‑building, and community in action — and that’s something worth celebrating today.
