If you’ve lived in Thunder Bay long enough, you know there are two seasons: winter… and potholes.
And because nothing says local pride like laughing through the pain, this morning on Country 105, I decided it was the perfect moment to release Thunder Bay’s Unofficial Pothole Song – the anthem we never asked for, but absolutely deserve.
If we’re going to slalom down Memorial like we’re training for the Olympics, we might as well have a soundtrack.
Meanwhile, City of Thunder Bay crews are out this week doing the heroic work of filling in the craters created by our favourite winter party trick: melt, freeze, melt again, explode. It’s basically nature’s way of saying, “Surprise! Your road is now abstract art.”
The warm weather over the weekend kicked things into high gear, marking the beginning of the end of winter and the beginning of potholes big enough to apply for their own postal code.
If you spot one that looks like it’s trying to swallow a car whole, the city wants to know. You can report potholes 24/7 at (807) 625‑2195, or online if you prefer to avoid human interaction.
And while crews are out patching things up, the city is reminding drivers to slow down and give workers space – because nothing ruins a day faster than trying to fix a pothole while someone barrels past like they’re late picking up their double doubles.
So yes, pothole season is here. The roads are bumpy, the coffee is splashy, and the soundtrack is catchy. Thunder Bay wouldn’t have it any other way.
