From TODAY IN THE BAY (April 18, 2023) edition:
Did you hear what’s happening in Ottawa? One of the French Catholic School Board’s is considering a “four-day school” week’
This would be the first in Ontario, and could be the first in North America. Here’s how the board explains the concept / and reasoning: the board hopes students and families can spend more time having fun, cooking, doing activities or playing sports in the hectic pace of everyday life. Families would have one more day per week to maximize quality time.
BUT, there is a catch: the Board would have to extend the school day by 40 minutes a day to make up for the 5th day off. It’s not official yet, as it’s pending provincial approval.
What do you think about this concept?
**Several texts came into our TbayTel Talk & Text Line with more questions than answers. People said, if you want to maximize time as a family, that would mean the parents would need to be working a 4 day work-week, so they can be off with their kids too.
This all looks good as a concept, but do you really think this would happen? Interesting!
