Every once in a while you hear a story that just restores your faith in people. Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott — yes, the same one who once shared a bank account with Jeff Bezos — quietly gave away $7.1 billion last year. And she didn’t stop there. Since 2019, she’s donated $26 billion, basically the entire fortune she walked away with after the divorce.

And the wild part is… she does it almost invisibly. No big press conferences, no giant novelty cheques. Most organizations don’t even know they’re getting anything until someone calls out of the blue.

That’s what happened to Kim Mazzuca, who runs a California nonprofit called 10,000 Degrees. She gets a call from someone at Fidelity Charitable — which, by the way, doesn’t even handle Scott’s money — telling her they’ve been chosen. Kim says she was so shocked she could barely get words out.

And Scott says her giving is inspired by the people who helped her when she was struggling in college — a dentist who fixed her broken tooth for free, a roommate who loaned her a thousand bucks so she wouldn’t have to drop out.

So it makes sense that so many of her gifts go to groups helping students get into university and actually afford to stay there. Quiet generosity, huge impact… and honestly, a reminder that sometimes the biggest hearts make the smallest noise.
