TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD:

Last week – The Thunder Bay Public Library announced a huge renovation plan for the Waverly Branch on Red River Road.

It’s been described as an “extensive, whole-building renovation” and is set to start in January.  The branch hasn’t seen a major reno since the early 70’s.  The goal is to convert the entire building from top to bottom, as well as the exterior.

The children’s space will double in size.  More computer stations too.  Plus, restoring the famous skylight.  I bet you’re asking just how much is this going to cost?  Price tag:  $8 million.  Money is coming from the City, as well as FEDNOR, and reserve money built up over the years.  Plus, they’ll soon be launching what’s called a Community Capital Campaign, with a goal of raising about $2 million to help fund part of the renovations.  The plan is to have the library open in early ‘28.

MP Patty Hajdu said, “when we invest in local infrastructures like libraries, we support vibrant and thriving neighbourhoods”.
