Some technical issues forced a conflict of interest hearing to end its first day early.
A panel is hearing evidence in a complaint against Justice of the Peace Anna Gibbon for alleged professional misconduct.
She’s accused of breaking ethics rules by involving herself in a legal matter surrounding her son in 2019.
Linda Rothstein began the case Monday morning against Gibbon, calling Nicole Klein as the first witness, who served as the prosecutor against Gibbon’s son.
Klein testified the Justice of Peace called her prior to her son’s court date, asking “Do you know who I am?”
Rothstein has said that other prosecution witnesses also played a role in Gibbon’s son’s court date.
Gibbon’s lawyer, Eugene Bhattacharya, finished cross-examining Klein about her involvement and her previous testimony.
Bhattacharya has stated the number of witnesses the defense call will depend on evidence presented over the course of the hearing.
The panel was forced to wrap up for the day just before 4:00 p.m. Monday when the prosecution’s second witness was unable to join the video hearing.
The panel has set aside the rest of this week and another week in July to decide whether to uphold the complaint against Justice Gibbon, though it is assumed the full time period will not be required.
The prosecution has said they will call a total of five witnesses.
