Antigonish town and county have voted to consolidate after deliberating for more than two years.

During Tuesday night’s emergency council meetings, the vote was 4-3 for the town.

At the county, the vote was 5-4 in favour, with one councillor having to declare a conflict of interest and not vote.

According to a release, the merger won’t be finalized until the province passes special legislation.

That could happen as soon as the next session of the legislature starting February 27th.
