Halifax Water has issued a massive boil water order for most of the municipality.
People in Halifax, Dartmouth, Cole Harbour, Middle and Lower Sackville, Bedford, Beaver Bank, Timberlea, Spryfield, Hammonds Plains and Herring Cove.
The boil order was issued because of a power interruption at the JD Kline Lake Water Treatment Facility, which let a limited amount on unchlorinated water into the system, according to a news release from Halifax Water.
“Staff are tracking this issue and are working on options to flush this untreated drinking water out of the system,” the utility wrote. “Halifax Water continues to monitor the water quality and is closely consulting with Nova Scotia Environment and the Medical Officer of Health.”
People are advised to boil water for one minute any time they are:
- drinking
- preparing infant formula
- making ice cubes or jouces
- washing fruits or vegetables
- cooking
- brushing teeth
- any other activity requiring human consumption
The boil order will last until “further notice,” the utility said.
