A majority of Thunder Bay businesses will no longer be asking you for COVID-19 proof of vaccination.

In following with Ontario dropping further pandemic restrictions Tuesday, Chamber of Commerce President Charla Robinson says owners look to avoid frustration with customers by asking whether they have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

“It is an extra level effort for (businesses) to (ask for proof),” noted Robinson. “Many businesses have also told me that they will move towards reducing capacity limits a little bit, just to make sure that their customers and clients feel safe as we transition to more traditional levels of capacity.”

General Manager of Superior Shores Gaming Joe Brizard added that his business will drop that requirement, and is hopeful that they can bring back more activities for the customers.

“We are going to keep up cleaning efforts, which will include door handles, surfaces, and machines between uses,” Brizard mentioned. “With our capacity limits being raised, we’ll be able to do some in hall promotion, some exterior stuff and special events where we can have a few more people in the hall.”

Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, says the mask mandate, along with the isolation requirements when you are sick, are under review.

Moore noted that the mask rule will be lifted “simultaneously” across most sectors.

Premier Doug Ford told reporters on Monday that while we aren’t far away from a decision, the date could be after March Break.
