Stepped-up enforcement by the Ontario Provincial Police during the May long weekend traffic resulted in hundreds of charges being issued.

Almost ten percent of traffic-related charges laid in Ontario were in northwestern Ontario.

Of the 1,532 charges, more than 900 were for speeding.

OPP also found 33 people not wearing a seatbelt and 23 motorists stopped for impaired driving.

Seven charges were laid for careless driving and two for distracted driving.

Across Ontario, OPP laid close to 14,700 traffic-related charges, issuing 7,860 speeding charges.
