Goalie Carter Hutton will be back in Thunder Bay to host the Hometown Heroes Charity Golf Classic.

The tournament, which is set for August 5, raises funds to help support the programs and services provided at the George Jeffrey Children’s Centre.

Hutton said the cause hits close to home.

“I think of the first time that I went to the kids fair the day before the golf tournament,” Hutton said. “And I saw so many people that I knew whose kids used the services with George Jeffrey. That’s when supporting this cause felt right for me.”

Golfers will hit the links at the Fort William Country Club for 18 holes in a scramble format tournament.

Hutton remembers being passed the torch to host the tournament by fellow NHL alumni Patrick Sharp.

“I was playing on Patrick’s team at the tournament and he had kind of hinted at it,” recalled Hutton. “That night, the coordinator at the time and Patrick asked me if I wanted to be the host, and gave me some time to think about it but honestly it didn’t take long for me to say yes. It’s such a great tournament and charity to be a part of.”

Hutton went onto say: “I would just rather be the host so then when my time is up we can pick a new host and keep raising money for George Jeffrey.”

Hutton is an unrestricted free agent, which means he can sign with any NHL team for the 2021/2022 season.
