A local organization is hosting a rally to give you an opportunity to support Canada’s sovereignty.
Citizens United for a Sustainable Planet (CUSP) has organized an event to give you an opportunity to say ‘hands-off’ Canada.
This comes as a trade war continues to develop with the United States.
The main goal and message of the rally is that Canada will never be part of the U.S.
The locally organized rally is a part of a network of Hands Off rallies taking place in Canada and the U.S.
“I think lots of Canadians are really concerned about what’s happening in the states right now and the threats to Canada, Canadian sovereignty, both economic and broader,” explained Local Lead Organizer with CUSP, Paul Berger. “So it’s an opportunity for people to come out and say hands off Canada, hands off Greenland. We won’t be ruled by a mafia government, we don’t like the attack on free speech on trans people and gender diverse people.”
Berger added that the event was “just a way for people to come out and show their discontent in an embodied way with other people.”
The rally is taking place at the intersection of the Harbour Expressway and Memorial Avenue.
No walk is planned with the rally opting to stay near the interseciton that is in a visible, centralized location in the city.
The event is running from 10:00 a.m. to roughly 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
“Hands off our climate, the states are going headlong into climate breakdown, (and) we don’t want to follow them,” added Berger. “We want to be Canada and do our own thing, and that’s not always following the States.”
