An announcement by the Ontario government on Friday means that beginning Oct. 25, capacity limits will be lifted at the majority of settings where proof of vaccination is required. This includes all city indoor areas of sports and recreational facilities.

In a statement from City Manager Norm Gale, he again stresses people need to be patient as Thunder Bay adjusts to these new regulations.

“As the province begins to gradually lift public health measures, including capacity limits, we will continue to remain diligent and in accordance with Provincial regulations. We will work hard to get people through the doors of our recreational facilities as quickly as possible, and make sure this is being done properly and with safety in mind. We are asking for continued kindness and patience from patrons while we work though this new regulation.”

Currently, the city is working to increase staffing and volunteers to ensure a smoother screening process at these facilities where proof of vaccination is required. Anyone entering indoor city facilities are still required to verify they are vaccinated against COVID-19. This can be done with the Verify Ontario App QR Code, paper vaccination receipt (not
laminated) or medical exemption alongside government-issued identification.

Along with sport and recreational facilities, capacity limits will be eliminated at restaurants, casinos, and gyms. The province also released a timeline of easing more restrictions hoping that all public health measures, including wearing a mask, be eliminated by Mar. 28, 2022.

To speed up the process at the door, the city is offering a pre-screening option available here.  For more public health information, you can visit www.TBDHU.COM/coronavirus.
