Very few details have been made available almost 24 hours after a large presence of emergency responders descended upon the Canada Games Complex.

The incident began before 8 p.m. Wednesday when police, fire and EMS arrived on scene and guests at the facility were ordered out of the pool and track area.

Sources speaking to reporters say before they were ushered out of the area during the incident, they could see a male who had been pulled out of the pool in medical distress.

Initial calls to the Thunder Bay Police Service directed reporters from Acadia News to the Criminal Investigations Branch, later inquires directed media to Superior North EMS who did not return calls.

A short statement was sent to our newsroom by the City of Thunder Bay, who operates the facility, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday which reads:

“We are committed to respecting the privacy of those involved. Thunder Bay Police Service deemed the incident a ‘medical event’, and the facility opened this morning as usual.”

Acadia News has sought further comment on if an internal investigation into operations at the Canada Games Complex will be reviewed as a result of the incident.
