Clearwater Seafoods is closing its lobster processing department in Lockeport, a move that local officials say will have a major impact on workers and the community.
In a statement, Mayor Derek Amalfa and Council said they are deeply disappointed by the decision, calling Clearwater a long-time pillar of the local economy.
They acknowledged the uncertainty the closure brings but emphasized Lockeport’s resilience and commitment to supporting affected workers and businesses.
The town says it is working to attract investment and strengthen economic opportunities to help mitigate the impact. Officials say they will continue working with partners to secure resources and pursue strategies for long-term sustainability.
Clearwater has not yet responded to a request for comment.
