The Community Safety and Well-Being plan for the City of Kenora could take a year to complete.
Right now, the plan is in it’s early stages.
Eric Shih was hired this past summer as the lead and says they plan to do some data collection and community engagement in the months ahead.
“What’s really important is making sure we get this right…lay a strong foundation,” says Shih after his presentation to city council this week.
“It really is all about community and getting solutions from the community. Doing community consultations with the city and other groups.”
Shih says they have a Community Safety and Well-Being committee that will be meeting today for the third time to get some feedback on what’s important in terms of community safety.
“We don’t want to wait for the plan to be accepted and then go ‘now we can act’. That doesn’t serve anybody and so as part of the structure of the work we’re doing, we’re carving up some space to be able to address things more immediately.”
Shih says they have also hired a consultant to help them develop the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
