An “incident” involving one of the Deer Island ferries is under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board.
But officials are not providing any details about Thursday’s incident involving the Deer Island Princess II.
The federal transportation agency said in a statement Thursday that it deployed two investigators to the island.
“The investigation has just begun, and our investigators are on their way to Deer Island as we speak. Which is why the information on the release is the only one we can share at this time,” a spokesperson said in an email to our newsroom.
Coastal Transport, the company that operates the ferry, did not respond to a request for comment from our newsroom.
In a post on its website on Thursday, the company said the ferry is estimated to be out of service for three days.
Our newsroom has also requested comment from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, which owns the vessels.
Meanwhile, officials said a second ferry to Deer Island remains in operation.
