

Weekday mornings at 6:35 on 99.9 The Bay, Danny features “The Impossible Trivia Question – Don’t Google The Answer”. We always say – “you learn something new every morning”. AND, this one is a perfect example.
Did you know that a WALT DISNEY film had its world premiere in Thunder Bay (Port Arthur at the time), in 1963, at the Odeon Theatre – corner of Park Ave and S. Court Street? What film? It wasn’t “Jungle Cat”. It wasn’t “Swiss Family Robinson”. It wasn’t “Mary Poppins”.
The film was “THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY” – about 2 dogs and a cat who set off an almost 400 km journey thru the Canadian wilderness to return home. So, why did Walt Disney want the film premiered in Port Arthur, Ontario?

The author of the 1961 book the film was based on, was written by Sheila Burnford, a Scottish writer who emigrated to Canada, and settled in Port Arthur. So, Disney Studios decided to have the film premiere here.
