A helicopter fighting the out of control wildfire in Annapolis County has crashed into shallow water.

In a media release Friday evening, The Department of Natural Resources says it happened just after 4 p.m.

DNR says the pilot was conscious and talking to first responders and by 6 p.m., was taken in to be medically assessed.

The department says out of respect for privacy, they will not be revealing his name at this time.

Transport Canada who investigates aircraft incidents has been informed.
