A lot of enthusiasm and great ideas for the revitalization of the South Playground.

Council hosted a meeting Wednesday night to hear what you would like to see at the space.

Mayor Pam Mood says ”excitement was off the charts” as residents made several suggestions including sensory equipment, washrooms a community garden and even a stage.

“The addition of local talent coming in, kids doing plays…so it’s not just about swings and slides.  It’s about arts and culture, recreation…activity.”

Mood says that one of the things the community already loves about the park is that it is a big, open space, but central with a grocery store right next door.

Done in phases

It’s going to take a while before the park is finished.

Mood tells us they are going to have to tackle it in phases in order to make sure they can secure the funds.

“We did have $80,000 on the table just to get started but I think $15,000 of that was just used to take down a couple of buildings that had to come down. So, we are down to $65,000 which everyone knows is not a lot of money to do any great deal of work.”

Because of this, Mood says, they will continue looking for input on the park for at least a couple of more months, if not the whole year.

Then they will see how they can get the rest of the cash needed.
