The councillor for the Fall River area will serve as the next deputy mayor in Halifax.

Cathy Deagle-Gammon was been elected to the role by peers during council on Tuesday.

She is originally from Inverness in Cape Breton but has lived in Fall River for 25 years.

Deagle-Gammon was first elected to council in 2020 and takes over the deputy mayor’s post from Sam Austin.

It’s a one-year term.
