No injuries to staff or firefighters after a large piece of equipment caught fire at the Resolute Saw Mill, located on Darrel Ave.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue (TBFR) responded to the fire early Wednesday morning with four Pumper Truck Crews and one Platoon Chief Unit.
They arrived to find mill staff attempting to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby logs.
Fire-fighters immediately put on self-contained breathing apparatuses and began extinguishing the fire.
Damage to the piece of equipment, known as a Cat M325, was extensive.
It is believed the cause of the fire was “accidental and mechanical” in nature.
TBFR Platoon Chief John Kaplanis credits Resolute Mill Staff for their efforts, in which they used their mill hose to douse the fire and prevent any spread prior to fire-fighters arriving.
