Fire crews in Moncton are back at it again Sunday morning, fighting another fire, says Riverview Professional Firefighters.

According to a post shared by the union on social media around 9 a.m., it is in a construction dump in the Homestead Road area and mutual aid as been called in.

This fire is one of three over the weekend that has kept crews busy and the second one at a construction dump.

There were two blazes Saturday; the first, was a large pile of tires that started at 6:30 a.m. at Steve’s Tire on Caledonia Road.

Steve’s Tires confirmed in a post on social media, that it was in fact their business that had the blaze, but their building is intact.

“We’re so thankful to share that our building is safe, the fire was contained and only some of our used tire inventory was lost,” reads the post.

Scott Brown, acting platoon chief for the Moncton Fire Department said considering what tires are made of it is not an easy fight to put the fire out.

“They are composed of mostly oil-based products. So, they burn very intensely. They are very difficult to put out. They produce a great deal of heavy black smoke,” said Brown.

A few hours later, around 10 a.m., another call came in. This one was for a construction landfill site on Weisner Road.

Brown said it was fully involved at about 2 acres, and they had to call for help.

“We called for two other trucks. Another Moncton tanker, Dieppe tanker and a Riverview tanker to assist us,” said Brown.

The union called in for mutual aid assistance with a tanker and as of 12 p.m., there were no available units in the city.

As of 8 p.m., Saturday, Brown told us crews just back from fighting the fire and it is still likely not out, however, the property owners would remain on scene with their heavy equipment.

No reports of any injuries.

Meantime, there was another tire fire at a different business near Moncton just last week.

Two trailers went up in flames in Lutes Mountain, Sunday, September 14.

There was no damage to the shop and no injuries reported.
