The messy weather continued into Monday night.
As of 10 pm, rainfall warnings in areas including Saint John, St. Stephen, Grand Manan and Charlotte County remained in effect, with up to 35 millimetres forecast to fall.
Freezing rain warnings continued in areas including Fredericton, Moncton and southeast New Brunswick.
Snowfall warnings continued in regions to the north, with up to 20 centimetres of snow forecast there.
Freezing rain made travel difficult for motorists, with very icy conditions on the roads. There were numerous crashes reported, including one in Fredericton involving a transit bus that flipped onto its side on Hilton Drive. Police say four passengers and the driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Over 2000 NB Power customers, mostly in the central part of the province, including Fredericton, Oromocto and Hanwell, were without electricity as of 10 pm Monday, with no estimated restoration time available.
Numerous flights out of the Greater Moncton Romeo Leblanc International Airport had to be delayed or cancelled due to the freezing rain that fell throughout the day.
In an interview with Environment Canada on Monday, Meteorologist Ian Hubbard stated that conditions were expected to improve somewhat by Tuesday morning, with cooler air and scattered flurries throughout the day. He also expected we would return to more normal winter temperatures.
