A beloved family-run store in the heart of Westphal has been given the green light to expand.

Gateway Meat Market on Highway 7 is a massively popular store that has long line ups on a daily basis for its fresh, affordable food.

Harbour East Marine Drive Community Council unanimously voted in favour of the expansion Thursday night, that would bring a larger building double the size of the existing one, dozens more staff and a pedestrian covered walkway.

Gateway opened in April 2008 with five separate expansions since.

They currently have a staff of 90 people.
