Fire crews in Halifax were called to a house on Prospect Road around 4:30 Friday morning after reports of smoke.

Fire officials say the situation is now under control, but crews remain on scene. They also say the homeowner is safe, though it is not yet known whether anyone was inside when the fire started.

Meanwhile in Burnside, a pickup truck caught fire on Highway 102 at Exit 2 eastbound toward Akerley Boulevard. Officials say that investigation has been turned over to Halifax Regional Police.

Multiple HRFE stations are responding to both emergencies, and drivers are reporting significant traffic backups in both directions near the scenes.
