A Halifax man has been charged with luring a child.

Police say it was September 1 when they responded to a complaint that a child received a message on social media from a man she knows.

He had invited her to meet to engage in a sexual act.

She shared the message with an adult and did not meet with him.

The 24-year-old was arrested Thursday in Dartmouth and is scheduled for court.

He is facing these charges:

• Luring a person under 16 years of age by means of telecommunication
• Breach of a probation order
