Halifax Mayor Andy Fillmore is welcoming Budget 2025 tabled Tuesday, by Prime Minister Mark Carney.

In a statement on social media Fillmore says he was “eagerly awaiting” how the budget would address what matters to Haligonians – affordability, housing and mobility.

“Ottawa has recognized that housing supply depends on municipal infrastructure. These are not investments we can take on ourselves. Halifax has shovel-ready projects that will turn this federal support into homes,” says Fillmore.

He adds, in the coming weeks HRM will begin drafting a municipal budget and hopes decisions made will reflect the reality of residents.

“Families balancing the books, students choosing between rent or food, businesses hiring their next worker, or seniors trying to make ends meet,” says Fillmore.

The choices are not easy, he says, but reasonable and compassionate decisions can be made at the Council table through “constructive conversations”.
