Police are at the scene of shooting in the north end of Halifax and it’s led to tense moments at two schools in the city.

Halifax Regional Police say at approximately 7:30 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to a report of an injured person in the area of the 3600 block of Rosemeade Avenue in Halifax.

They located a man with gunshot wounds.

Two men, who are believed to be known to each other, were in a dispute and one of the men shot the other.

The victim was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers are still in the area and are looking for the suspect.

There is a large police presence at St. Stephen’s Elementary and Highland Park Junior High schools.

Both schools are under a hold and secure, which limits access to the buildings, but classes continue as usual.

Police say the suspect is described as a white man with short dark hair, wearing a beige cardigan over a white shirt, dark baggy pants, grey shoes and carrying a grey shoulder bag.
