Thunder Bay high school athletes will soon be back on the court, ice, and snow.
The Superior Secondary School Athletic Association reports that basketball, girls hockey and cheerleading can resume game action next week along with curling, girls hockey and nordic skiing.
“What we have been told is that we can resume high contact sports, which we started with our practices on Monday. Our seasons are scheduled to pick up as of Tuesday (February 22nd),” said Activities Director David Pineau.
Pineau says spectators will be allowed back in, with restrictions still in place.
“We still need to see the COVID-19 vaccine passport in the meantime, you still need to be masked and we are capped at the 50 per cent rule. The only change going forward is we will no longer be contact-tracing on-site,” he said.
Ontario announced on February 10th that more extracurricular activities in schools, including high contact sports, would be allowed to continue.
