St. Joseph’s Care Group is announcing the addition of 14 new temporary care beds at Hogarth Riverview Manor.

“It’s a beautiful setup in a very natural environment so that people can be really socially involved in the Hogarth Riverview Manor community,” said St. Joseph’s CEO Janine Black.

The beds will serve people who don’t require around-the-clock care, but still need support while waiting to access the appropriate services in the community.

“Right now there’s an over 1,200-person wait list for long-term care,” Black said. “People are sometimes having to wait in hospital. And so this is an opportunity for people to wait in an environment that is more supportive of their care needs.”

With the new installation, 64 beds that had been temporarily designated for short-term use can now revert to long-term care, bringing the total number of long-term beds across St. Joseph’s facilities to 544.

“The transition of beds back to St. Joseph’s Care Group will support their intended structural and intended use for long-term care and match the care needs to the right setting,” said Dr. Rhonda Crocker Ellacott, President and CEO of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
