The polls have closed in Nova Scotia and some results are slowly starting to roll in, early results for Halifax show Shannon Miedema taking the lead.
Miedema has a sizeable lead over Conservative Mark Boudreau, who is neck and neck with NDP’s Lisa Roberts.
The Halifax candidate will take over the role after former MP Liberal Andy Fillmore, resigned to serve in municipal politics.
He was elected mayor of HRM in October, leaving the spot open.

Conservative Brycen Jenkins has now taken the lead over former MP Liberal Sean Fraser.
Fraser threw his hat back in the ring after stepping away from federal politics in December to spend more time with family.
A phone call from Prime Minister Mark Carney changed his mind, even after a Liberal candidate was already selected.
