This week marked the end of an era / and the start of a new one.
Goodbye to the old garbage bins, and hello to the new ‘wheeled garbage cart’.
I think, for the most part – the joy in Thunder Bay is real — and it’s rolling right to the end of our driveways. With the city finally joining the rest of the country in the new wheeled garbage cart program, residents are saying goodbye to the old bins and bag limits and hello to a cleaner, easier, more modern system.

It’s a small change with big energy behind it, and honestly, it feels like Thunder Bay just levelled up. Don’t you get that feeling that it’s a little more organized, a little more streamlined, and a whole lot more 2026?
This morning, that excitement hit home for me — literally — as I wheeled my brand‑new cart down the driveway for the very first time. And let me tell you, it was glorious. Smooth rolling, tons of space, and none of that “is this too heavy?” hesitation we’ve all had on garbage day. The cart felt sturdy, clean, and solid.
It’s amazing how something as simple as a new bin can make you feel like the whole city is moving forward.

Thunder Bay has been watching other cities use these carts for years, and now we’re finally in the club. No more ripped bags, no more wind‑blown trash, no more wrestling with overstuffed bins. Just one clean, efficient system that makes sense. It’s progress you can literally roll with — and judging by the smiles on driveways across the city, we’re more than ready for it.
