Impala Canada has announced plans to end operations at its Lac des Iles mine next spring.

CEO Tim Hill sent an email to the facility’s workforce last Thursday after visiting the site.

“As confirmed during our conversations, we are now executing a plan that anticipates commercial production ending around May 31, 2026,” said Hill in the email. “The final date of operations is dependent on several factors, including available tailings capacity and our ability to meet production targets.”

The facility which mines palladium employs roughly 800 people.

The mine is located approximately 90 minutes northwest of Thunder Bay.
